5 Best yet economical water purifiers to buy this rainy season

The rainy season has arrived and so is the contaminated water that leads to several water-borne diseases. Although rains are a pleasant reprieve, they bring along many diseases and infections. Not to forget that this is the time of the year when dirty water mixed with sewage and soil travels through the pipeline and then to our home taps. This mix-up between the sewage & clean water is often responsible for polluting our drinking water. In fact, the presence of certain bacterias like E. coli can lead to severe gastroenteritis, diarrhoea, vomiting, food poisoning and other illnesses as well.

Dr Bharat in relation to drinking healthy water during rainy season says-

Make drinking water safe by boiling, filtering and by using water purifiers to ensure its purity. Or just stick to bottled mineral water to protect yourself against water-borne diseases,

Well, before we dive into the list of our 5 best and economical water purifiers, have a quick look at the following basic tips to dodge a spate of diseases that strike during this season.

The first thing that comes to our mind, when we think about purifying our tap water is boiling. But, merely boiling water isn’t enough. According to a study, one needs to boil water at least 20 minutes for it to effectively deactivate disease-causing micro-organisms. Well, if you think you’re free from contaminants after doing this 20 minutes task then you’re certainly wrong.

According to CEO, Direct Sales, and Senior Vice-President, Marketing, Eureka Forbes Limited

‘Boiling water is effective in eliminating water-borne bacteria and virus, but it has no effect on chlorine content and cysts, nor does it remove turbidity, organic and inorganic impurities.’

Adding more to this, cooling water after boiling 20 minutes makes your water prone to re-contamination which means you’ve to very careful with this method of purification.

Besides boiling the water there are other methods like using chlorine tablets, bleach powder and Alum for sedimentation that works as one of the tested home remedies to purify your drinking water. Home remedies are easily accessible but, indeed they come with some disadvantages. For your better understanding about the home-remedies to purify water, I’ve especially written a separate blog in detail as- 4 simple effective home remedies to purify water.

Moving on. You know, where our home-remedies lag there comes the innovation. Yes, our very own water purifier technology that has taken place of its own on our wall or down on the kitchen platform. You know the best thing about the water purifiers is that it is convenient.  Once you install the water purifier, all you have to do is turn on the faucet and collect drinking or cooking water. There’s no time wasted boiling and cooling water or carrying cases of bottled water and then stocking them for return.

But, using the latest water purifier that goes with your home aesthetics in any place isn’t the best idea. A few examinations have demonstrated that India has differing water conditions, and obviously there’s no single technology which can purify water of each location. Individuals assume that there is one innovation that can take care of all water issues. The truth of the matter is that there are 17 various types of water conditions crosswise over India and there isn’t a one-measure fits-all arrangement that can be received to cleanse water. It is very important to understand the water quality and accordingly decide on the purifier.

For the water quality, you must know the TDS level of water in your area. Knowing the TDS level will give you an upper hand while you go for buying a water purifier. It is said. that the TDS level between 150-300ppm are considered as excellent for drinking whereas 300-500ppm are good and above 500+ ppm are under the category of very poor for drinking. For your better understanding of TDS Level, I’ve written a full detailed blog over TDS mentioned as Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) & Methods to Reduce Them

Vivid star saffire 20 L

Vivid Star Saffire is a UF Based Gravity Purifier suitable for low TDS Water. It has an elegant design and made of High-quality ABS Food Grade Engineering Plastic. Vivid Star Saffire along with Sediment and Carbon Purification uses a 0.1 Micron UF Membrane that can not only removes bacteria and virus but is also capable of removing the cyst from the water.

Pros and Cons

Yes, Vivid Star is the brand I chose when I went to buy a water purifier in the range of 2k-3.5k. I would’ve gone with several others brand. But, the body material and the tap height Vivid star Saffire gives you is the best in this range. Additionally, the quality of water is just tasty and clean. I’m using it for now 6 months & there isn’t any bad side of it I came across. Yes, one thing that I should share here; that it causes some water leakage but unless you put it at your decided place without any regular movements you’ll be far away from witnessing this problem. And, one more thing you must know that I live in a region where the TDS Level is around 150-250ppm so having this purifier was a great deal. It is working perfectly without any issues. And lastly, you only need to change its cartridge only once after 9 or 10 months. The Cartridge requires costs around 800-900/- in a year which is not a big deal.

Last words of the verdict

Generally, water supplied from municipality has a lower concentration of TDS, whereas the water drawn from borewells or supplied by tankers has a higher concentration of TDS and other harmful chemicals. Choose a water purifier that has the ability to remove the new-age contaminants. Not every RO Water purifier is best especially for the lower level of TDS water where it leads not only demineralisation of water but also adds to water wastage.
